Effect of Gas Producing Reactions on Stress Wave Propagation FINAL REPORT

چکیده
Both solid to gas (CaSO< + SiO — CaSi03 + S02 and Si3N4 + 3C (diamond) —» and 3SiC -f 2 N^) can be shock-induced at ballistic velocities. Because of the endothermic nature of the gas-producing reactions, the extent of reactions observed are limited to interfaces. We found the above reactions proceed to a much less extent than calculation by equilibrium thermodynainic calculations. Reaction products are found to be 1Ü*' times those calculated for equilibrium. We show that the extent of reaction, rather than limited by the usual diffusion processes appears to be controlled by dynamic mixing processes arising from Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities at, for example, CaSi04-SiO.> interfaces. We apply a theory developed by Drucker [l] to account for the observed extent of reaction. * Also at Department of Geology. Arizona StattTuners ity. Tempe, AZ SV.'SI

Effect of Initial Stress on Propagation of Love Waves in an Anisotropic Porous Layer
In the present paper, effect of initial stresses on the propagation of Love waves has been investigated in a fluid saturated, anisotropic, porous layer lying in welded contact over a prestressed, non-homogeneous elastic half space. The dispersion equation of phase velocity has been derived. It has been found that the phase velocity of Love waves is considerably influenced by porosity and anisot...
متن کاملInquisitive Analysis of the Point Source Effect on Propagation of SH Wave Through an Orthotropic Crustal Layer
The occurrence of SH wave propagation under the effect of a point source in an orthotropic substratum lying over a heterogeneous orthotropic half space is deliberated in the prospect of a devastating earthquake. The quadratic alteration is acknowledged for density and shear modulus which is hypothesized to be a function of depth. The method of Green's function and transformation technique contr...
متن کاملReflection of Waves in a Rotating Transversely Isotropic Thermoelastic Half-space Under Initial Stress
The present paper concerns with the effect of initial stress on the propagation of plane waves in a rotating transversely isotropic medium in the context of thermoelasticity theory of GN theory of type-II and III. After solving the governing equations, three waves propagating in the medium are obtained. The fastest among them is a quasi-longitudinal wave. The slowest of them is a thermal wave. ...
متن کاملWave Propagation at the Boundary Surface of Elastic Layer Overlaying a Thermoelastic Without Energy Dissipation Half-space
The present investigation is to study the surface wave propagation at imperfect boundary between an isotropic thermoelastic without energy dissipation half-space and an isotropic elastic layer of finite thickness. The penetration depth of longitudinal, transverse, and thermal waves has been obtained. The secular equation for surface waves in compact form is derived after developing the mathemat...
متن کاملTorsional Surface Wave Propagation in Anisotropic Layer Sandwiched Between Heterogeneous Half-Space
The present paper studies the possibility of propagation of torsional surface waves in an inhomogeneous anisotropic layer lying between two heterogeneous half-spaces (upper and lower half-space). Both the half-spaces are assumed to be under compressive initial stress. The study reveals that under the assumed conditions, a torsional surface wave propagates in the medium. The dispersion relation ...
